In this workshop, we'll walk through the entire clay recycling process, from understanding the different stages of clay through to creating your own plaster bat and preparing recycled clay that's ready to throw again.
One of the best things about working with clay is that almost nothing has to go to waste. Whether you've trimmed a piece, had a pot collapse on the wheel or found a bucket full of dried scraps, nearly all unfired clay can be recycled and turned back into beautiful, workable clay.

You'll learn when clay is easiest to recycle, how to turn dried scraps into smooth slip, how to safely mix and pour plaster, and how to use a plaster bat to remove excess moisture and bring your clay back to the perfect consistency.

We'll also explore a variety of simple recycling methods, whether you have a dedicated plaster bat, a stone bath mat or even just a pillowcase hanging on the washing line. You don't need a fancy setup to start recycling your clay.
